Avian Flu Vaccine Safe and Immunogenic in Children, Small Study Suggests
A vaccine against avian influenza appears to be safe and immunogenic in children, according to a preliminary study in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal.
Twelve healthy children aged 9 to 17 years received one injection of the inactivated H5N1 vaccine Fluval. Three weeks later, seroprotection and seroconversion were each observed in 75% of the subjects. No adverse effects were detected.
